About Community Projects Worldwide

Community Projects Worldwide (CPW) was established as the retail side of Kalahari Trading 10 years ago. Kalahari began as a retail outlet in 1999 before transforming into a wholesale distributor exclusively. Owners Murray and Pru McMillan were involved with indigenous communities in Africa, Far North Queensland and Papua New Guinea before that in the hospitality industry working in remote lodges.
Today CPW has 2 retail outlets, (Eumundi QLD and Port Macquarie NSW) with a third on the way.

Murray and Pru live between Noosa and Eumundi with their 2 children. They regularly travel around the world visiting communities and suppliers and take pride in the sustainable nature of their business.

Whilst CPW and Kalahari Trading establish commercial relationships with their suppliers with a view to encouraging self sufficiency under the Fair Trade philosophy they also support several charitable operations. They provide ongoing support for The Moya centre in Swaziland http://www.moya.co.sz and have been supporting a group of women in Soweto for over 13 years grow their sewing business through the not for profit sale of their ‘goodwill dolls’. In the past CPW has also supported the Victorian Bushfire Appeal, Kenyan Drought Relief, Nepal Earthquake Appeal, and many other local fundraisers.

To establish a market for products made by community groups, self help groups or individuals, from disadvantaged or marginalised backgrounds. In the process creating employment, and a better quality of life for the artisans, employees and their families and communities.
