African Women

These beautiful ceramic pieces come from the Overberg region of South Africa. Most of the crafters are from the local community where the unemployment rate is very high. They have a staff of over 120 people, with 90% being women, and over half of these have been with the group for more than 10 years. They strive to create conditions that are safe, encourage personal growth and training, and respect cultural identity.
The ceramics are hand poured into moulds, and then painted with intricate designs. Through this whole process the product is fired 3 times, creating a glossy finish that is dishwasher and microwave safe.
